When a bike disappears, everything often happens within minutes. By the time you notice the theft, it may already be in a van, an underground car park, or a locked storage unit. To complement a good lock, the challenge is not simply to add GPS, but to have reliable, actionable location data when you need it.
A D-lock, chain, or U-lock remains the first line of defence: it makes theft harder and buys time. A GPS tracker does not physically stop someone from moving the bike. It does alert you, locate the bike, and let you share its position in real time. The two protections play different roles and work together.
Proximity tags are handy for finding a bag or keys. On a stolen bike, the model is different: they rely on a compatible phone passing nearby. Indoors, useful accuracy can stay limited and the position only updates when a device comes within range.
Right after a theft, that dependency can cost precious time. If the bike is moving, location updates may arrive too late to follow the route properly. And if it is hidden in an underground car park, the last position shown may simply match the last phone that passed by — sometimes far from where the bike actually is.
An autonomous GPS tracker works differently: it has its own GPS and cellular connection. With Flashbird Air, active tracking reports a position roughly every 10 seconds. You can follow movement in the app and share a location link, including with the police. If the bike goes underground, the last known position helps narrow the search area.
Flashbird Air for bicycle uses the same Flashbird Air device as other offers: no wiring to a vehicle battery, USB-C charging, IP67 certification against dust and immersion up to 1 metre, SIM included, and coverage in more than 190 countries.
On a bike, mount the device on the frame, tuck it in a pouch, or place it under the saddle. Do not install it inside the frame tube, so GPS and network reception stay reliable. The goal is discreet, secure placement on an e-bike, city bike, cargo bike, or high-value pedal bike.
The built-in 6400 mAh battery offers up to 12 months on standby and up to 3 months with active tracking, based on Flashbird Air figures. Real-world battery life depends on alerts, network coverage, and how you use the bike. With no vehicle battery to power the device, plan periodic USB-C top-ups.
When the bike moves while it should stay secured, Flashbird can trigger anti-theft alerts: notification, email, and night phone call depending on your plan. Live GPS tracking and position sharing help you react quickly. On eligible plans, Flashbird Cops assistance can follow once you report the theft in the app.
On a bike, some movement is legitimate: shared racks, communal bike rooms, transport in a van, and similar cases. The optional Smartkey on Flashbird Air lets you briefly disable anti-theft when you are moving the bike. You can also adjust sensitivity in the app when your plan allows it.
For pedal bikes, e-bikes, and cargo bikes, Flashbird Air for bicycle uses the same Flashbird Air device at the same public price (169 €) as the motor-vehicle offer, with a product page and purchase journey focused on cycling. Essential, Standard, and add-on plans are the same as on Flashbird Air for motor vehicles.
Flashbird Air for bicycle is not a wired solution for motorbikes or cars. For a powered two-wheeler, car, or other vehicle with a battery, choose Flashbird Air for motor vehicles, Flashbird One, or Flashbird Ultra depending on the level of protection you want.

If an alert fires or the bike appears to be moving in the app, open live tracking, share the position if needed, and contact the police. Do not intervene alone. Keep the crime reference and report the theft in the Flashbird app to activate assistance under your plan. Flashbird does not guarantee recovery, but it provides useful information to act quickly in the right place.
Experience from two-wheeler thefts shows that live position can sometimes lead to a car park, storage unit, or basement where several vehicles are grouped. The value is following movement before a possible loss of signal and giving precise information to the authorities.
